STF Cares is a program established to serve the communities where we live and work as well as support STF employees in making a difference. STF Cares takes our mission of bringing Excellence, Ethics, and Engagement to the work we perform every day and applying it to our communities.
A Note from Fredericksburg's Empowerhouse
You have truly made the holidays bright for our families! The Empowerhouse Staff thanks you for such inspiring generosity. As we transition through this challenging time, we are grateful to know that good people are reaching out to help in so many ways. Thanks for all you do to make change!
STF teamed up to sponsor a Halloween event for Empowerhouse, a local domestic violence shelter. We have sponsored Empowerhouse families during the holidays for the last two years. Due to COVID-19, Halloween was a little different this year, so we wanted to raise the spirits of the children staying at this shelter. STF helped make their Halloween spooktacular!
October's Golf Tournament
Last October, STF Cares was a sponsor of a golf tournament in Fredericksburg for a local non-profit that supports families of pediatric cancer patients. Team STF even birdied the hole!
Wounded Warrior Project - Virtual 5k Walk/Run
During the fall, 592 squads across the country participated in the Wounded Warrior Project. Our very own STF Cares squad finished #1 in the nation for the Carry Forward 5K! Our squad of 57 participants raised over $25,000 to provide critical support to injured veterans and their families. To everyone who participated, you made STF very proud!
Chesapeake's Tiny Tigers
STF partnered with Rena B. Wright Primary School, home of the Tiny Tigers, to help students get ready for the 2020-2021 school year by donating much-needed school supplies, helping to provide the educational tools for the students to succeed! To maintain social distancing, we conducted a drive-up and drop-off event placing boxes in front of the Chesapeake office for employees to drop off their donations. We are proud to say we outfitted over 80 STF Cares backpacks with much-needed school supplies and several boxes of extra school supplies. This is what makes STF stand out, the turnout and generosity of STF employees are second to none!
The Alpha Project
Through the STF Cares Program, we provided 150 drawstring backpacks filled with items most needed by the homeless of San Diego. Over $1200 worth of items such as socks and toiletries were collected and donated by Ops 300 employees. On Thursday, December 3, a few employees got together to fill the backpacks and they were delivered to The Alpha Project on Friday, December 4.
There are roughly 10,000 homeless men, women, and children throughout San Diego County at any given time. At the core of all of Alpha Project’s facilities and services is a program of Community Outreach. Operating out of Alpha Project vans, the outreach teams drive to areas where homeless people congregate. To develop relationships, the teams offer food, water, clothing, hygiene supplies, blankets, heat packs, transportation assistance, help obtaining identification, as well as a compassionate ear. Alpha Project is well-known and trusted within San Diego’s homeless population, and its outreach staff members have developed a solid rapport with the homeless over the years. STF Cares’ backpacks will provide assistance to 150 of these folks.
Thanks to all who donated and helped to make this donation drive a huge success!
The Thurman Brisben Center
STF donated a meal for the residents at one of Fredericksburg's homeless centers that served over 600 people in need including children and Vets in 2019. The Thurman Brisben Center is a 24-hr fully functional residence 365 days of the year that was established in 1987 and continues to grow. On Monday, March 9th STF came together and assembled lunches for 50 of those residents and delivered these meals in addition to any of the center's urgent needs that STF employees donated. We had a great turnout from STF and a lot of grateful residents!
YMCA's Bright Beginnings
STF teamed up with The Gemini 3 Group to participate in the YMCA's Bright Beginnings Backpack Buddy program! Between the two companies, 75 backpacks full of back-to-school essentials were donated to the YMCA. Our donation served the Massad Branch which serves residents of Stafford County and the City of Fredericksburg. We sent the kids off to school in style!
SoCal Cyber Cup
This spring, STF sponsored Cambridge Middle School in the 11th annual SoCal Cyber Cup. The SoCal Cyber Cup Challenge is a cyber defense competition open to all high school and middle school students in San Diego, Imperial, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. The challenge’s goal is to encourage students to learn about computer security threats by providing an educational venue in which students can apply the theories and practical skills they have learned and foster a spirit of teamwork, ethical behavior, and effective communication both within and across teams.
After a qualifying round, the top eight teams of the two divisions Varsity (high school) and JV (middle school) were invited to compete in the final round on May 9. The Cambridge School advanced to the finals and ultimately placed 5th.
STF is proud to sponsor STEM opportunities for students in the Southern California region.
